CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Lake Zurich Roman Catholic church welcomed back its priest Sunday morning, a year after the Chicago Archdiocese announced an investigation into child sex abuse claims against him.
Parishioners of St. Frances de Sales gave Father David Ryan a standing ovation after hearing a letter from Cardinal Blasé Cupich reinstating the priest.
Ryan told those gathered for mass the past year has been horrific but also had blessings.
Ryan’s reinstatement was slated for September but delayed by what the archdiocese called additional information about abuse allegations dating back to the 1990s when Ryan was at Maryville Academy.
The cardinal said an investigation found insufficient reason to suspect Ryan of sex abuse of a minor.
