CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Bird-Friendly Chicago Coalition is expressing its frustration with the city of Chicago over its failure to act on bird-friendly design requirements for new construction.

The coalition includes the Chicago Audubon Society, the Bird Collision Monitors and the Chicago Ornithological Society, of which Edward Warden is president.

“I’ve been working on this for years, close to a decade here and it just seems that at every turn we keep getting delays, excuses, while we’ve worked in really good faith with the city and city department to try to find some sort of arrangement that works,” he said. “We’re frustrated about it.”

They’re frustrated, in particular, with the Department of Planning and Development. New York City is among those who have already done this.

“It's pretty straight forward, and it works, and it really doesn’t harm all the other factors and the players in the picture here,” said Warden.

WBBM has asked the Department of Planning and Development for comment.

Meanwhile, Warden said, Chicago — the city that is considered to be the most dangerous for birds — continues to see them dying
