(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Mayor Lightfoot is touting Chicago’s imminent realization of her citywide COVID-19 vaccination goal, ahead of schedule.
She said 76.7% of Chicago residents ages 12 and up have received at least one dose of the COVID vaccine. In September, her administration set the goal of 77% by year’s end.
Work remains in raising vaccination rates among Black and LatinX residents; both groups are still under 55% vaccinated.
The administration is leaning on members of the Mayor's Racial Equity Rapid Response Team, including West Side United.
“This work is very important to us in our plight to decrease the life expectancy gap by 50% by 2030,” Executive Director Ayesha Jaco said.
Lightfoot said Monday there’s still too much misinformation about vaccines, but she believes it’s more an issue of vaccine hesitancy rather than resistance.
