(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — When it comes to Mother’s Day activities, Chicago area residents have a lot of choices this weekend.

WBBM Newsradio’s Rachel Pierson has the roundup.

—One option is to treat mom to an afternoon of tea this Sunday at The Bar at Hotel Zachary on the North Side, or at the iconic Ambassador Chicago downtown.

—Opening just in time for Mother's Day is the second annual Spring Tulip Festival. Enjoy the scent and scenery of tens of thousands of tulips in bloom at Richardson Farm in Spring Grove.

—You'll find even more flora at the Garfield Park Conservatory's Spring Flower Show. It's your last chance to explore this show, “Knock Knock,” featuring an array of tulips, hydrangeas, daffodils and hyacinth.

—It doesn't just smell like spring. It tastes like it, too in the western suburbs. The Morton Arboretum's spring wine tasting is Saturday. Visitors can sample more than 80 wines and receive a souvenir tasting glass to take home.

—Find out what it means to be human at the Chicago Humanities Festival. The "Festival Days" return this Saturday and next with a full lineup of in-person events featuring discussions, screening and musical performances. Guest speakers include Anita Hill, John Waters and Selma Blair.

—Cheer on your favorite horse and sip on some mint juleps at Broken Barrel Bar in Lincoln Park. Its Hats and Horses Derby Watch Party takes place 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. with cash prizes for best Derby attire.
