(WBBM NEWSRADIO) —Southport Lanes — a nearly century-old Lake View establishment that tried to stay open during the pandemic — has now apparently closed for good, with the owners auctioning off the interior.

Everything is being sold.

“Everything that is within the space is for sale,” Lacey Irby, spokesperson for the owners of the business formerly known as Southport Lanes, said Wednesday. “There are also four bowling lanes, and the lanes themselves are also for sale.”

The online auction starts July 13 and runs through July 20.

The decision to auction off the contents was difficult, Irby said.

A state of Illinois grant of $70,000  helped to pay some of the bills, but it was not enough to keep going, Irby said.

Irby had no comment on Southport Lanes owners reportedly getting $200,000 as a federal Paycheck Protection Program loan.

She said no decision has been made on the future of the building.
