(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A 24-hour diner in the South Loop has been closed by city inspectors, and police say illegal activity has occurred there.

The White Palace Grill had a compromised second exit, no working smoking or carbon monoxide detectors and expired fire extinguishers, according to a task force from the city’s Building Department.

Other issues include water coming through light fixtures and emergency lights not working.

Meantime, the Chicago Police Department said they issued citations for illegal activity at the diner — specifically, that stolen merchandise was being sold inside.

The diner at Roosevelt and Canal announced the closure on Facebook, saying it hopes to reopen soon.
