(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – West Side Congressman Danny Davis says he's leaning toward a “no” vote on the measure that would raise the debt ceiling and prevent a U.S. default.
The Chicago Democrat said people in his Seventh Congressional District support raising the debt limit, but they oppose cuts to essential social programs that would be slashed in the deal between the White House and Republicans.
“I’m leaning in that direction,” Davis said Tuesday of his own opposition.
“I think the reason we call this politics is because the circumstances often dictate the behavior.”
He’s not sure how he’ll ultimately, Davis said, but he held out hope some changes are still possible. He said he would not move to block a vote.
