(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — West Side Congressman Danny Davis on Monday said he and others are jump-starting an effort to help people in poor urban and rural area better bridge the so-called digital divide.
With a new administration in the White House, Davis said he’s re-introducing legislation to help low-income families pay for computer equipment and have the training to use it.
The measure is called the Computer and Internet Access Equity Act.
“It is a game-changer to help reduce poverty,” Davis said.
There would be a lifetime $10,000 tax credit for purchasing the equipment to get online and pay for broadband Internet service.
The measure is designed to help people who live in both urban and rural areas, he said.
