(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Chicago dance company has transformed a performance that was delayed by COVID into a movie that will premiere this weekend.
Like so many things, Praize Productions had to cancel its last annual performance in 2020.
Enneressa Davis, president of the not-for-profit art and community mentoring organization in Bronzeville, said she used the hiatus to adapt the dance, music, visual arts and spoken word production.
"We took this time to pivot and re-imagine our last theatrical production into our first motion picture, and so we're really excited to present this work,” Davis said.
While it was challenging, Davis said it also was a chance to grow.
"I think the beautiful thing that's coming out of COVID is we, as artists, have to re-imagine our talents and our gifts and come up with new ideas."
The finished product, titled NINE, will be screened at the House of Hope on April 2. Davis plans to enter it in film festivals.
