CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The owners of a donut and popcorn shop in the Longwood Manor neighborhood, on Chicago’s South Side, are hoping customers will help them re-open.
Poppin Dough on West 95th Street had to close six weeks ago because a pipe carrying waste-water to the street was broken.
Co-owner Richard Gray posted a video on Facebook explaining the problem.
One break under the curb and one in the middle of the street.
"And, I'm like you, I thought the same thing that since it's on the city side of the property, that it's the city's problem. But, that ain't how it [went]. If you have a commercial business -- small, big, it don't matter -- the responsibility is on you," Gray said.
The cost of the repair is $42,000 and it’s not covered by insurance.
He started a crowd-funding campaign on Go Fund Me, which can be found under city pipe repair.
