(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Danielle Martin’s bath and body care products are inspired by cocktails, but they don’t reek of booze.
"When someone’s like, ‘Oh, a gin soap bar, it probably smells like moonshine,’ I’m like, ‘It doesn’t,’" the CEO of Soap Distillery said. "If you took gin and took the alcohol note out of it so you didn't get that burn, and you really smelled what gin smells like, it smells really aromatic. It has juniper berry in there and it has lemon peel."
Her company -- its motto is "Small batches, no hangovers" -- has been brewing up soaps since 2012. Martin said at that time there weren't enough Black, women owned businesses for her to look up to. Now, 10 years later, her business has become one of those role models.
"It's tough to run a business that is rapidly growing, but I wouldn't trade it for anything,” she said.

Martin now hopes that her soaps serve up some aromatic courage to those on the fence about following a dream.
"You're never going to know where you can go unless you try and go there."
