CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A holiday pop-up shop on Michigan Avenue is inviting shoppers to buy from fair trade businesses this holiday season.
As hundreds of stores on Michigan Avenue prepare for the holiday season, Chicago Fair Trade's holiday pop-up is offering customers a sustainable option for holiday shopping.
“There's some really big-box stores on this street, lots of luxury brands, and it's an area that's really associated with consumerism, so we're saying, ‘Hold on a minute, how can we do that consumerism in a more mindful way?’” said Nancy Demuth, with Chicago Fair Trade.
Demuth said the pop-up, located at Michigan Avenue and Erie Street, features products from nearly 30 local businesses that are handmade by workers from over 30 countries.
“The aim of the holiday pop-up shop is to showcase our local fair trade business members, so local businesses based right here in Chicagoland that are working with makers locally and around the world, paying them fair wages, making sure they have safe working conditions, and also using eco-friendly production practices,” Demuth said.
The store is open now through Dec. 30, 2024.
