(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Police have announced criminal charges against a Chicago man stemming from an eruption of looting in August 2020 that rocked several retail corridors in the city.

Lindsey Ward, 34, was arrested Tuesday and charged with one felony count each of looting and burglary, Chicago police said in a news release.

Ward was identified as a suspect who entered a retail store on Aug. 10 in the 100 block of South Wabash and took merchandise, police said.

Looters swarmed stores in the downtown and neighborhoods following a police-involved shooting in the 5700 block of South Racine that drew unruly crowds.

More than 100 people were arrested immediately after the Aug. 10 looting, which is different from the wave of looting here that followed the May 25, 2020 death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Ward was due in bond court on Wednesday, police said.
