CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Chicago man is one of two people who’ve filed federal lawsuits against a Texas doctor who has admitted performing an abortion in defiance of that state’s newest anti-abortion law.
Felipe Gomez lives in Roscoe Village and filed his lawsuit Monday morning in San Antonio, Texas. Gomez described himself in the lawsuit as a “pro-choce” plaintiff and said the sole purpose of him going to court against Dr. Alan Braid is to get the courts to weigh in on the constitutionality of the Texas Heartbeat Act.
Gomez said he believes the courts should find the law illegal.
The North Sider said he had not been aware he could claim up to $10,000 in damages if he won his lawsuit. He said that if he received any money, he would likely donate it to an abortion rights group or to the patients of Dr. Braid.
