Starting next week, you can catch Chicago-made movies on the big screen in parks across the city as part of the 12th Chicago Onscreen film festival.

The festival, hosted by the Chicago Park District, aims to promote Chicago-based filmmakers and their work and will bring 16 films from a diverse range of genres to screens in 10 different parks.

The Park District says this year, there were more than 100 submissions. Those featured were selected by a committee comprised of 12 Chicago Park District, Chicago Film Office, and Chicago-based independent film staffers.

According to the Park District, each film sets out to "reach the audience with new perspectives, bring unknown viewpoints to light and explore what we thought we knew about our city."

Chicago Onscreen is part of the Chicago Park District’s Movies in the Parks and the Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks initiative. Throughout Chicago Onscreen's history, the series has screened 195 films in 63 parks, bringing in more than 6,000 audience members.

The screenings start on August 25. You can check out the Chicago Onscreen website for the full screening schedule.
