CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Chicago Park District poured some cold water on city residents Friday with an announcement that the District’s indoor and outdoor pools will begin closing Aug. 12.
Chicago Park District officials said much of its workforce will be returning to school on Aug. 22, and because of that, its pools will close for the summer between Aug. 12 – 21.
Aug. 22 is when students will return to Chicago Public Schools.
The park district said they’ve succeeded in opening 37 pools during the summer of 2022.
Twenty-one of Chicago’s public beaches, though, will remain open through Labor Day.
Indoor pools will reopen for the fall season on Sept. 6, Chicago Park District officials said. Fall programs, such as Learn to Swim, Aquatics Exercise Classes, Water Polo, and more will begin the week of Sept. 12.
