A man is in the hospital after a shootout with police Monday night in South Chicago.
The police department says tactical officers responding to a call about a person with a gun at about 10:30pm near 82nd and South Shore attempted to stop someone who matched the description a block away.
Police say the officers ordered the man to keep his hands up before there was an exchange of gunfire.
Both officers shot the man, then called for an ambulance.
The man was taken into custody and to the hospital in serious condition.
Police say they recovered a gun.
No officers were shot but they were taken for observation.
They are on administrative duty for at least 30 days as the Civilian Office of Police Accountability investigates.
