CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - After surviving the turbulence of the coronavirus pandemic, Chicago’s airports are ready to welcome travelers ahead of the busy spring and summer season.
On Monday, Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced the city’s new welcome campaign titled “What We’re Made Of”.
“It is the right tagline for our beautiful, diverse, and unique Chicago,” said Lightfoot.
“A city of stories, a city of experiences that simply cannot be found any place else on the planet,” added the Mayor.
The first phase of the campaign features Chicago’s 26 public beaches, hundreds of public parks, iconic museums and world renowned hotdog stands.
The illustrations were created by the marketing agency FCB Chicago and will be displayed on monitors and banners throughout O’Hare and Midway International Airports.
The city is also working to improve travelers' experiences by adding dozens of new 24/7 state-of-the-art vending machines to its airports.
“They will sell everything from cosmetics and electronics to gourmet cupcakes, and yes, even Legos,” said Lightfoot.
Chicago Department of Aviation Commissioner Jamie Rhee highlighted one of the newest vendors, Oops! Diapers 2Go.
“[Their] vending machines will take care of those unexpected situations with diapers and wipes, plus pacifiers, sippy cups, and other baby products,” Rhee announced.
So far, 70 machines have been installed throughout terminals 1, 2, and 3 at O’Hare.
At Midway, low-contact purchase options are available with food delivered to departure gates through GoEatMDW.com or displayed QR codes. Hudson Nonstop in Concourse B offers Amazon’s “Just Walk Out” technology for a streamlined and contact-free checkout experience.
