CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A partial solar eclipse likely will be visible in Chicago next week.

The eclipse will begin on Saturday October 14 at bout 10:37 a.m., according to the Adler Planetarium.

The moon's shadow is expected to increase as it moves across the sun.

At 11:58 a.m., the eclipse will reach its maximum, when the sun will look like it's been "bitten" in half.

Then the eclipse will end at about 1:22 p.m. The Planetarium will be hosting a free outdoor event beginning at 10:30 a.m. for the public to view the eclipse.

Since the eclipse should not be viewed without proper eye protection, the planetarium's volunteers and staff will be handing out solar viewers and telescopes fitted with solar filters will be set up around the museum grounds.
