(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The time leading up to Christmas is a busy one for churches, including many which host elaborate services on Christmas Eve.

Kyle Isabelli, the senior pastor at Avenue Christian Church in Clarendon Hills, said he and other pastors wanted to give their workers and volunteers a break by not having Christmas Day services.

“We have services on the 23rd and the 24th, and so we want to honor the work and the effort that our staff and our volunteers put into those services,” said Isabelli.

Isabelli said the sacrifices made by staff and volunteers allow them to “create a great experience for many in our church and community.”

“We want to allow them to have rest on the 25th with their family, knowing that recreating a whole different type of service for a different feel on Sunday morning just requires a lot of extra work and effort in a season when they’re already putting in extra work and effort,” Isabelli said.

He says the most important thing about celebrating Christmas is how it's done, not when.
