CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Federal charges have been filed against a Cicero man related to the violence and looting that occurred in Chicago more than a year ago.

Investigators screening hours of surveillance video identified 32-year-old Jose Valdovinos as one of three men alleged to have broken into a Walgreens at 59th Street and Pulaski Road in June 2020, looting and setting a fire.

A federal grand jury returned an indictment charging him with maliciously damaging and destroying a building punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

In a statement, U.S Attorney John R. Lausch said anyone committing crimes during the course of civil unrest should know that federal law enforcement will use every available tool to hold them accountable.
