CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The city is opening another round of direct cash payouts.
Applications are open again for the Chicago Resiliency Fund 2.0, which gives a financial boost to residents who didn’t get a COVID-19 stimulus. Another 17,000 Chicagoans can get one-time $500 payments through the program, according to the city.
Now eligible are domestic workers who have spent a year or more providing at-home services like housekeeping, child care, cooking and health care. The city will award 7,000 domestic workers.
“Care workers are the backbone of our economy — they make all other work possible. As a daughter of a domestic worker, I know the challenges they face day in and day out to support other families while trying to keep their own afloat,” said Mayor Lori Lightfoot in a statement.
“This fund represents the continued commitment from my administration to ensure that our hardest-hit residents, including domestic workers and undocumented residents, get access to recovery funds.”
Residents who didn’t get stimulus checks because they are undocumented are particularly encouraged to apply, officials said. The city will award 10,000 undocumented residents.
