(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Former Illinois governor Pat Quinn is urging the Lightfoot Administration to release the full watchdog report on the 2020 smokestack demolition that left Little Village blanketed in dust.
Quinn wanted to hand-deliver letters to Lightfoot and her corporation counsel, but City Hall officials wouldn’t allow him past the first floor on Monday.
He said he has filed a Freedom of Information Act request to obtain the Inspector General’s full report on the disastrous incident at the former Crawford power plant.
“Sunlight is the best disinfectant,” Quinn said.
In a statement, the mayor’s office insisted that releasing the report is prohibited unless there’s a death or commission of a felony and strong public interest. Not all the conditions have been met, administration officials say.
It’s no secret Quinn is thinking of running in an already crowded field for Chicago mayor. He said he’ll make a decision at the end of summer, most likely after Sept. 11.
