CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - It will be a busy week for City Colleges of Chicago teachers, as they appear on the verge of a strike.

Their union will be meeting tonight.

Cook County College Teachers Union President Tony Johnston told WBBM that a week of action will begin with a meeting amongst its membership that will include possibly announcing a strike date.

Wednesday, teachers and staff will picket across the entire City Colleges of Chicago system. And, Thursday, an official announcement of a strike could be made at a rally at Chicago Teachers Union headquarters if a deal is not reached between the Cook County Teachers Union membership and City Colleges.

The teachers have been asking for more remote learning support, cost of living wage increases, and healthcare for part timers among other demands.

The union was authorized to strike by its membership in early October.

City Colleges of Chicago representatives sent WBBM a response:

"City Colleges is committed to negotiating in good faith with each of our professionals and faculty unions to finalize their respective contracts."
