CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --The Chicago Park District is offering incentives as it seeks to staff the beaches and pools with lifeguards this summer.
The Park District is offering $600 dollar bonuses and a chance to win tickets to sporting events and concerts to year-round lifeguards and seasonal lifeguards who pass a skills test and complete paid certification training.
Officials opened the application process in March.
“As you know, there’s a shortage of lifeguards across the nation," said General Superintendent Rosa Escareno.
"We have seen an uptick in applications but our goal is to get parents to remind your kids that lifeguards are needed at the Park District and so we encourage you to apply.”
Lifeguards have to be at least 16 years old. The pay is about $18/hour or more, depending on the length of employment.
