CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A ruling from a federal judge says City Hall does not have to change its protest path for the Democratic National Convention.

Judge Andrea Wood's 24-page ruling says the route the City has offered protestors satisfies the First Amendment and addresses significant security and safety concerns.

Wood says challenges to the proposed route have to do with the city not offering "the exact route" protestors want even though it “allows them to speak near their intended audience.”

Several groups have sued the City over the protest route.

The City's proposed route is from Union Park to near Park 578. Protestors have argued it's too winding and too short to accommodate the expected demonstrators.
