CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — College of DuPage is following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's guidance and requiring face masks for all students, faculty and staff for the upcoming school year.

The only exception is for fully-vaccinated individuals who are working alone in their offices.

This came as DuPage County now falls under a substantial COVID-19 transmission category, with more than 70 new cases reported for every 100,000 people in the last week.

The Glen Ellyn-based school is also following the recommendation of the Illinois Community College Board and Illinois Board of Higher Education in requiring all students and staff be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Starting Jan. 1, the college will require proof of vaccination to attend in-person or hybrid classes next spring.

“I believe that following the ICCB and IBHE’s recommendation to require vaccinations affords the best opportunity to continue to provide a safe environment for everyone,” said College of DuPage President Brian Caputo in a letter to the community.

Caputo noted the new mask protocol is still being developed and more details will be provided for those seeking exemption.

The largest community college in Illinois, College of DuPage’s fall term begins August 23.
