CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Some activists say a West Side park should be for people...not for parking cars.
Etta Johnson lives right near Garfield Park.
She was among a handful of neighborhood residents and business owners who gathered in the park to say that West Shrader Drive and McCrea Drive attract drinkers, drug dealers and all kinds of trouble especially when the sun goes down and to voice these concerns to 28th Ward Alderman Jason Ervin and Chicago Police.
"Hang around," Johnson said addressing the others attending the meeting. "You'll have a lot to see."
Long time West Sider Jimmy Eggleston has been affected personally by troublemakers in the area.
"It's all night," he said referring to people's reckless behavior. "One night one person got drunk, got in their car, tore up about six cars. One of them was mine."
Johnson had other ideas for the park. "Make it a running path and a bike path. That's what we need."
