(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) is touting the benefits of the Inflation Reduction Act passed by Congress and signed into law, but she’s concerned about its future.
Schakowsky was joined by Dr. Daphne Smith Marsh on a zoom call. She highlighted the $35 cap on the monthly cost of insulin, which was established in the bill.
The congresswoman said if that cap was in place two years ago, more than 9,000 people in her district would have saved more than $1,400 each for the year.
“There are currently 3 million Medicare beneficiaries that use insulin, so this impacts a large number of persons,” Smith Marsh said.
Schakowsky is concerned that the bill will be repealed.
“Unfortunately, not a single Republican voted for the legislation,” Schakowsky said. “And, it gets worse actually, because Congressman [Kevin] McCarthy (R-CA) announced a plan that he has, should the Republicans take back the House of Representatives. The first thing he wants to do: To repeal the Inflation Reduction Act.”
McCarthy has called the bill “tone deaf.”
"On the very first day, we will repeal the 87,000 IRS agents [in the bill] because, government should be here to help you, not to go after you,” McCarthy said.
