(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- ComEd has been ordered to give refunds to its customers because of its involvement in a bribery scheme connected to a rate increase, but a couple of consumer groups don’t think the refund amount is large enough.
The Illinois Commerce Commission has ordered ComEd to pay $38 million dollars in refunds to consumers. That’s going to average about five dollars per customer-a refund that consumers are expected to receive as a rebate next April.
Both the Citizens Utility Board and the Illinois PIRG Education Fund say the refund amount is too low. CUB had suggested a $45 million dollar refund.
ComEd has also paid a $200 million dollar fine to the federal government for its role in the bribery scheme that has led to indictments of politicians including Mike Madigan.
