(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Cook County Clerk has performed a very public wedding for the Brookfield couple who received the county’s first marriage license of 2023.
It’s a perennial good news story at the begging of each new year, but Clerk Karen Yarbrough noted that COVID-19 put in-person ceremonies on hold for a while.
On Tuesday, she presided at the wedding of Mandy Fila and Daniel Ferguson in her office. The couple was joined by their two young children.
Mandy says she’s known Daniel for two decades, and they have been together for 13 years. It was time, she said: “Our parents have been pressing us for a long time. Our daughter’s going to be 10 this year, so why not? Our son’s 6 already, he’s going to be seven.”
The couple won the lottery for the first license and received gifts and gift certificates from local merchants.
