CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Some Cook County Jail detainees were able to spend time bonding with their children on Saturday in a much different setting than a regular visit.
The detainees were able to touch and hug their kids. They were wearing regular clothes and detainee Antonio Stark said it was all positive.
"It's good because I get a chance to spend some real positive time with my family. I can engage with them more Instead of me talking over the phone or through glass. We're able to dress appropriately so we won't have to worry about our children looking at us in a bad way," Stark told WBBM Newsradio.
Dr. Keyuana Muhammad is the director of behavioral health at the jail.
"The program focuses on relationship enhancement, engagement and creativity. So today we had a guided art activity where the individuals are asked to paint their idea of what their family is. There've been tears, there've been smiles. People have just lightened up," Muhammad told WBBM Newsradio.
The event was part of what the Cook County Sheriff's office calls the Family Cares Program.
