(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Now that the CDC has paused use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, Cook County has reduced the number of new appointments it will release Tuesday.
Thirty five thousand new vaccination appointments in suburban Cook were to be released this afternoon, but officials say that number has been reduced to 27,000 appointments.
Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle downplayed concerns some people may have about COVID-19 vaccines, amid reports linking six cases of blood clotting to the single-shot J&J vaccine.
“They’re looking into six people out of almost 7 million people vaccinated - six people. That means one chance in a million that you’ll have a negative response. I like those odds,” she said Tuesday.
Cook County officials say 5% of the vaccinations given in suburban Cook have been Johnson and Johnson — or about 27,000 shots.
Officials say there have been no local reports of blood clotting issues.
The other vaccines are made by Pfizer and Moderna, which both require two doses. The J&J vaccine is a single dose.
