(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — More information has been released about an incident on the Near West Side involving a CPD officer who accidentally shot his gun Saturday.

Still very early on in the investigation, but we do know that this happened during an arrest shortly after 11 p.m.

Chicago police said tactical officers were on patrol near Monroe Street and Oakley Boulevard when they approached a suspect, who then ran off.

The officers ran after him on foot and as they were trying to arrest the suspect, police say one of the officers accidentally discharged his firearm.

No one was hit. The suspect was taken into custody and charges are pending.

An officer was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries. The suspect was taken to a hospital for observation.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability tells us they were notified of the incident by CPD, no additional details were immediately given.
