The Chicago Transit board approved an increase in funds to expand outreach on the CTA, fund additional shelter beds and renew a two-year partnership with the Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS).
Funding will allow teams to continue conducting outreach aboard CTA Red and Blue Line trains and at rail stations. The CTA said a third team will be added to the Blue Line and a nurse will be integrated into the existing Red Line outreach teams.
The CTA is also adding at least 30 dedicated shelter beds at CTA properties, where individuals can transition to temporary shelters.
The agency will also be renewing its two-year partnership with the DFSS, which provides the outreach teams that connect individuals with shelter, healthcare, mental health services and more.
