CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago continues to see positive numbers in COVID-19 vaccinations but infections are also on the rise.

The city of Chicago's order for school workers to be vaccinated by Oct. 15 came as state leaders reported more than 21,000 new COVID-19 cases across Illinois in the last week.

The Illinois Department of Public Health also reported a statewide test positivity rate of nearly 6%.

Data on the IDPH site showed just under 900 vaccinated people have been hospitalized in this state for breakthrough COVID-19 infections since the start of the pandemic.

A total of over 13 million vaccines have been administered in Illinois as of Thursday. The seven day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is 30,737 doses.
