CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Preparations for Lollapalooza are underway in Grant Park as COVID-19 cases are back on the rise.

About 100,000 people are expected to fill Grant Park every day for four days next weekend.

What's supposed to be a celebration though is turning into a cause for concern for some because the COVID-19 pandemic isn't as over as festival organizers anticipated.

Everyone attending Lollapalooza is required to be fully vaccinated or test negative for COVID-19 beforehand.

"You have folks who are congregating, drinking and you know with their friends and you just feel a little bit more relaxed and then you kind of forget that COVID exists," Dr. Mita Shah, an emergency room physician at Rush University Medical Center, told CBS 2.

Those who aren't vaccinated are expected to keep their masks on but Lolla officials haven't responded to CBS 2 on how that will be enforced.
