Chicago Public Schools said it’s hoping to welcome high school students back to physical classrooms on April 19, if CPS officials can reach agreement on a plan with the Chicago Teachers Union.
The “target date” announcement was made Tuesday on Twitter.
Officials said the plan for high-schoolers would involve some kind of hybrid model in which students do some learning remotely and some in-person.
CPS reached an agreement with CTU members last month allowing students in lower grades to return to school buildings. Individual families decide if their children stay remote or participate in in-person learning.
If high schoolers return next month, it would be the first time since the pandemic that all CPS students were able to learn in-person at CPS buildings.
Parents are invited to attend a virtual town hall meeting updating the status of the plan.
The CTU said Tuesday there is no deal yet to reopen the high schools.
