CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Public School students and teachers are being offered a chance to join a new club that puts the world at their fingertips.
It’s called The 81 Club and, for CPS students, it’s even easier to join than getting a regular library card. No ID or parent signatures are needed.
Chicago Public Library Commissioner Chris Brown said students and teachers will be able to more easily access the library’s offerings whether they’re in school or a library.
“Databases that are extremely helpful for all those student reports, science projects and also homework help. So, we offer daily homework help until 11 o’clock at night through their library card access. So, they’re able to take advantage of that with this 81 Club account,” he said.
Students in the 81 Club will be allowed to physically borrow up to five books or other materials at a time.
Teachers will be able to use library databases and research tools in classrooms to help promote literacy and to access information.
The 81 Club starts in November.
