CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Some CTA riders have been organizing because of what they see as terrible service and a lack of transparency. Now, the transit agency's embattled president has agreed to take the hot seat during a city council meeting.
Their complaints include long wait times and trains and buses that don't show up as scheduled, or so-called "ghost" trains and buses.
The group, Commuters Take Action, and others want to see CTA President Dorval Carter resign.
Kyle Lucas, with the group Better Streets Chicago, was part of a recent protest at the agency's headquarters.
"The CTA Board gave Carter a staggering 33% raise to $350,000 for his 'rockstar performance' during the pandemic. Do you think that's rockstar performance? I think that's corrupt," Lucas said.
Carter angered aldermen when he failed to show up for a budget hearing to answer questions about the service issues.
Now, in a letter to members of the City Council, he cites "unprecedented challenges," primarily a workforce shortage. And, he also says he "welcomes the opportunity to speak to the city council" during a committee meeting next Thursday.
