Customer steals donation jar for sick Jimmy John’s employee

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A fundraiser for a sick coworker at some west suburban sandwich shops suffered a setback last week when a customer stole a donation jar.

Security-camera video showed a man inside the St. Charles Jimmy John's taking the jar, stuffing it under his shirt while workers were distracted and walking out last Tuesday evening.

Autumn Musachia, director of operations at Jimmy John's, struggled with whether she should share it on social media.

"My efforts wasn't to necessarily put it out there to have people talk bad about the gentlemen. No, it's just please bring the door back," Musachia told WBBM Newsradio.

It's for a raffle for Ricky Schoenwetter, who's the general manager of the Jimmy John’s on Farnsworth Avenue in Aurora to help him recover from the stroke he had about a month ago.

"He would give you the shirt off his back. Just so nice, super knowledgeable. He is just so witty," Musachia said.

She said the post did bring some good news the customer at the Streamwood location donated $300 after hearing about it.

A GoFundMe campaign for Ricky is about a third of the way to its goal.
