(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Eleven employees and former employees of an Aspen Dental Clinic in Crestwood are suing the clinic and say they were videotaped by hidden cameras placed in a restroom by a hygienist who had a criminal background.

The lawsuits say the Aspen Dental Clinic in Crestwood should have known that the dental hygienist had a criminal background “exhibiting moral turpitude.”

Joseph Rourke is the attorney for the employees suing the clinic.

“One of the cameras was positioned to obtain a lateral view of the employees using the bathroom, and the other camera was placed directly in front of the toilet,” Rourke said Thursday.

One of the cameras was discovered by an employee in October, attorneys said.

One of the suits was filed on behalf of clinic employee Alyssa Raine.

“I struggle with this every moment since it has happened. I still am unable to use any public bathroom. I’m only able to use the one that is at my house or my grandmother’s house,” she said.

“I just don’t know what I will do, but I’m trying very hard to forget that something like this could happen to me.”

The 11 lawsuits ask for damages.

Aspen Dental declined to comment on the lawsuits but expressed regret for any distress to employees: "We applaud local law enforcement, particularly the arresting officer, for apprehending the alleged offender and filing criminal charges. We regret this incident happened and are deeply sympathetic for the distress felt by everyone involved."
