DIXMOOR (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The state of emergency is over in Dixmoor following the most recent series of water main breaks.

Outside the village hall, village employees manned a barbecue, music filled the chilly air.

Bottled water was stacked on pallets. It’s something they’ve gotten used to. Residents have been dealing with sporadic issues for years.

But, for now, the emergency is over, said Village President Fitzgerald Roberts, following ten water main breaks in one week.

“In the last week we had 10 major breaks, they have now been repaired, but what we would like to see happen is not just making repairs. We would like to see replacements down because, as soon as you repair one spot, another spot opens up,” Roberts said.

He revealed the village has seen breaks where repairs were recently made.

“[It’s] very frustrating, but until we get the funding in to move along and get the pipe replacement, we have to deal with it for a while,” Roberts added.

Roberts said he’s getting help with pipe replacement from the County, the State and the federal government.

Bids are going out.
