CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Residents of south suburban Dixmoor are without running water Sunday morning as the pressure dropped significantly Saturday.
Village officials said water pressure fell to half its normal levels Sunday effectively cutting off the water supply for all its residents.
Village president Fitzgerald Roberts said he started getting phone calls about the low water pressure at 5 a.m.
"You cannot even flush the urinals. What we are doing now, we are working with the county as well as the township to get bottled water in for the residents," he said.
He told WBBM Newsradio it's not clear what led to the massive drop in pressure.
Dixmoor gets its water supply from neighboring Harvey. Harvey officials said the problem is not on their end.
The village called the situation a water crisis and its village board declared a state of emergency last week.
Dixmoor sits in southern Cook County, Illinois, approximately 18 miles south of downtown.
