DNA links Illinois man to woman's murder from 2000

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- DNA has linked a man from Illinois to a decades-old murder in Wisconsin.

Lucas Alonso is now in custody in Racine County, Wisconsin in connection with the death of 37- year- old Linda Fields on February 24, 2000.

The 66-year- old from Zion is now charged with first degree murder.

Fields body was found under a low hanging pine tree branch in the front yard of a home. The Milwaukee County medical examiner determined that Fields was strangled.

Alonso told investigators he choked fields during an argument. He said he thought Fields was still alive when he walked away because she was yelling at him.

Bail has been set at one million dollars.
