Doctor who survived breast cancer says vitamins can relieve some symptoms patients experience

Local doctor reminds that vitamins can help relieve symptoms breast cancer patients experience

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — During this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a pair of local doctors is touting the benefits of vitamins in recovery.

Endocrinologist Dr. Romy Block said vitamins can help breast cancer patients deal with nerve damage, digestion and more.

“There is a role for vitamins in relief of symptoms related to chemotherapy energy recovery,” Ramy said.

While the FDA doesn’t regulate dietary supplements, she encouraged people to look for a seal from the National Science Foundation.

“It's an outside regulation that basically makes sure that what's on the label is in the bottle and what's on the bottle is in the label,” Block said.

Block had breast cancer herself.  She and another North Shore doctor wrote a book about vitamins and launched their own line, Vous Vitamin, that aims to match people with the right supplements and dosages.
