(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Police were all over a West Side golf course Thursday afternoon, but it wasn’t for some benefit golf outing. They were searching for a suspect.

Golfers were cleared from the Columbus Park Golf Course after a suspect had escaped from Elmhurst police on the Eisenhower Expressway, which is right next to the course.

“At approximately 2 p.m., a marked Elmhurst police car was driving westbound I-290 just before the Austin exit when the prisoner in the back seat kicked out the back window of the marked police car and exited out the window and ran northbound from the scene,” Elmhurst Police Chief Michael McLean said.

The suspect, 27-year old Devin Revels, had been arrested in Chicago for a series of catalytic converter thefts in Elmhurst. Despite police on the ground and in the air, Revels was as elusive as a birdie on a golfer’s scorecard.

“We coordinated with several other jurisdictions. The Chicago Police Department, the Oak Park Police Department, the Cook County Sheriff’s Department and the Illinois State Police to search the golf course, the park and the surrounding neighborhood for the suspect. As of this time, we still have not located the suspect and he’s at large,” McLean said.

Golfers were cleared from the course during the unsuccessful search.
