ELMHURST, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --Elmhurst University is being sued in federal court by a former music instructor, who claims he was fired because he's Jewish.
After working at Elmhurst University for 11 years as an adjunct professor of music theory and composition, Louis Yoelin said his supervisor dismissed him last fall.
Yoelin said until then, he had received consistently good reviews for his work.
Attorney Marc Trent claims Yoelin was let go and replaced by a less-qualified instructor, because he was part of a group called "Fighting Online Antisemitism" and had responded to anti-Jewish posts.
"His termination was in no part due to his work qualifications, and his past history is exemplary performance at the university," Trent said. "It was specifically due to discrimination against him and him combating hate groups and antisemitic messages online."
A statement from Elmhurst University said while the school could not comment on personnel matters or pending litigation, the university stands behind its policies against antisemitism or any form of discrimination.
