(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An elementary school student from Evanston brought her concerns about the food in the lunchroom to the District 65 Board of Education.
The headline on the online news site Evanston Now says “Tomato Soup Rebellion in District 65.”
Willow Stewart, who will be a sixth grader at Willard Elementary, told board members that school lunches could be better. She said a lot of kids are still hungry after lunch.
“Another problem is the tomato soup,” said Willow. “A lot of kids say it tastes like watered down ketchup.”
She said the mac and cheese is good, but the soup could be better — and there needs to be consistency with the chocolate milk.
They only had chocolate milk once this past year.
Board President Sergio Hernandez said he’s had some of the food, which he described as “really good.” He added, though:
“There’s some that may not be that good. I like mac and cheese, but tomato soup … definitely, we can have nutrition services look into that.”
Willow is a member of a student advisory committee.
