EVANSTON,Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Parts of the lakefront in Evanston could soon look a lot nicer.
The city of Evanston plans to start tackling overgrown vegetation along the lakefront starting Monday.
According to a plan outlined on the city's website, the project will involve cutting woody vegetation down so that only short stumps remain. An herbicide called Garlon 4 will then be applied to the stumps to stop any future growth of vegetation.
The city said that Garlon 4 is being used to minimize impact on the soil. Treatments will continue through the end of August weather permitting.
Crews will also continue the maintenance of trees in the grassy areas of the lakefront parks, which are not being eliminated.
